In January this year, the University of Information Technology and Management (UITM) in Rzeszów and Anshan Normal University initiated a new chapter of collaboration by organizing a series of online lectures.
For the first time, these events connected students and lecturers from both universities in such a direct and interactive way. The goal was not only to strengthen ties between the institutions but also to create a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences within an international academic environment.
During these two inspiring lectures, participants had the opportunity to explore new cultural perspectives, delve into various aspects of tradition, literature, and art, and understand how global collaboration can enrich the learning process. These events emphasized the crucial role of cultural diversity in education, inspiring students to embrace growth and openness to the world.
On January 13, Dr. Paula Wieczorek from UITM delivered a lecture titled „Pixar Storytelling Rules: Writing Impactful Narratives” to Chinese students majoring in Subject Teaching (English). Her presentation highlighted the significance of storytelling, which has been a vital communication tool since ancient times. She emphasized its role in fields such as business, media, and politics. The lecture provided practical insights into crafting effective narratives, using examples from Pixar films. Key elements such as character development, plot structure, and perspective were thoroughly explored. „Storytelling not only helps us convey our ideas. It is a skill that will become increasingly essential in education and business in the coming years,” Dr. Wieczorek remarked, emphasizing the universal importance of this art in human communication.
The following day, on January 14, Dr. Cheng Cheng, Ph.D. in Education and Head of the Chinese Language Department at the School of International Education, Anshan Normal University, delivered a lecture titled „Time and Heritage: Traditional Culture Legacy.” Her presentation was directed at UITM students of English Philology, especially those specializing in Chinese. Dr. Cheng explored the evolution of the Chinese language and script, the significance of traditional festivals such as the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as the influence of mythology and traditions on contemporary culture. She also introduced elements of Chinese art, including calligraphy, and discussed the role of literature and philosophy in shaping global cultural heritage.
Karolina Legawiec, an English Philology student, shared her impressions of Dr. Cheng’s lecture: “It was a fascinating experience. I learned not only about the rich history and mythology of China but also about how many contemporary cultural phenomena worldwide have roots in Chinese traditions. I was particularly captivated by how literature and language intertwine with philosophy and aesthetics. The myths and symbols reflect humanity’s struggles with nature and destiny while continuing to influence modern cultural phenomena.”
The collaboration between UITM and Anshan Normal University has long been a successful example of academic and cultural exchange. Its primary aim is to enrich the educational process and promote mutual understanding between students and lecturers of both institutions. Through joint initiatives like online lectures, workshops, and exchange programs, students have the chance to immerse themselves in different cultures, develop their language skills, and gain unique academic experiences.
As part of this collaboration, UITM is hosting two students from Anshan Normal University this semester, Wan Yating and Zhang Yilin. They have expressed their appreciation for studying in Rzeszów and are enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn about Polish culture and lifestyle. Their presence exemplifies the fruitful exchange between the institutions.
Meanwhile, UITM students participated in an exchange program at Anshan Normal University, where they not only honed their language skills but also experienced Chinese culture and traditions firsthand. You can read more about their impressions and experiences in a separate post here. We encourage you to discover how inspiring and transformative such international experiences can be!
