In the academic year 2023/2024 over 107 thousand students from 177 countries studied in Poland making a 8.6% of students overall.
The Polish higher education sector attracts students mainly from neighbouring countries like Ukraine and Belarus but also from Turkey, Zimbabwe, India, Spain, China, and Azerbaijan.
UITM has a large student community from Zimbabwe, with many studying Social Work, Nursing, and IT. We rank fifth in the country regarding the number of students from Zimbabwe. In the South-East region, UITM has the highest percentage of foreign students, at nearly 72%, while Rzeszów University is in second place.
Director of International Collaboration and Recruitment at UITM, Magdalena Louis, explains this phenomenon; the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow has been a pioneer in Internationalization in Poland with more than 25 years of experience in this field. Not only students from Ukraine and Belarus make up the big numbers but also from Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Nigeria, Indonesia, and South Africa. They are choosing UITM because of the reputation and reputation cannot be built without hard work and dedication in teaching and supporting international students.
According to the „Study in Poland” report, Central Asia is becoming a promising market for Polish universities, and UITM has successfully recruited students from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. These students are pursuing degrees in Management and IT.
Worldwide, nearly 6.9 million students study abroad and this is twice as many as in 2008 The factors influencing international students’ mobility are complex and diverse. The primary reason remains the individual’s aspiration to gain professional qualifications and experience. Additionally, students from countries with fewer reputable universities face difficult choices. While studying abroad offers cultural and economic benefits to host countries, it also poses challenges for the countries of origin, as they may lose talented young people who choose not to return home after completing their studies.
