There is no doubt that the Internet has become one of the main sources of information and has revolutionized traditional ways of accessing it. But has it also made us think better and faster?

What does critical thinking mean in the age of the Internet? Dr. Joanna Wójcik will answer these and many other questions during her lecture entitled: „Critical Thinking and the Internet”. The lecture will be held as part of the „High Five to Science” series on the UITM YouTube channel.

In recent years, it has been observed that the Internet has become one of the main sources of information for university students. Therefore, students’ ability to use online information in a critical and reflective way is crucial.

The abundance of online information and sources can positively impact the learning process, for example by providing access to a wide range of learning resources at low cost and effort. However, online information can also have many negative effects on the learning process. While technological innovations are credited with stimulating creative thinking, many people criticize the impact of technology on critical thinking skills. The lecture participants will reflect on this together. Dr. Joanna Wójcik will also analyze how web features, such as unverified content, algorithmic search, and personalization, influence users’ critical thinking. The topics discussed will also include the issue of what new ways of critical thinking should be developed in pupils, students, and academic teachers.

During my lecture, I will touch on many topics and try to explain whether access to information on the Internet allows us to think better and faster. There is no doubt that the Internet allows us to find information better and faster, but as Albert Einstein said – information is not knowledge – emphasizes Dr. Joanna Wójcik.

Dr. Joanna Wójcik will answer the question of what critical thinking means in the age of the Internet. It will also formulate guidelines for teachers on how to develop critical thinking skills today.

The lecture will take place on April 17 this year. (Wednesday), at 6 PM on the UITM YouTube channel. It will be performed in English with Polish subtitles.
