We want to have a real impact on changing the world for the sake of future generations. The fact that our activities are being recognized in GreenMetric’s global ranking is proof to us that we are moving in the right direction.

What is UI GreenMetric?

The UI GreenMetric ranking has been evaluating university activities related to sustainability and climate protection since 2010. The ranking’s methodology draws from top benchmarks, including: Times Higher Education, Webometric, HEEACT, QS Ranking, The College Sustainability Report Card

The classification of universities participating in the ranking is based on their self-assessment against 89 indicators divided into 6 categories:

  • environment and infrastructure (e.g., percentage of campus devoted to green space, size of budget for sustainability measures, adaptation of campus to the needs of people with disabilities and mothers with children),
  • energy and climate change (e.g., carbon footprint, renewable energy sources, devices to reduce energy consumption, university programs for climate change), – waste (e.g., 3R programs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Reduce, Reuse, Recover, how to manage organic, inorganic and toxic waste, and wastewater management),
  • water (e.g., water conservation programs, water recycling programs, use of devices that reduce water intake),
  • transportation (e.g., percentage of parking areas in relation to campus area, transportation services offered by the university, programs for green transportation),
  • education (e.g., research for sustainability, events promoting sustainability, number of sustainability projects carried out by or with students).

For each indicator, the self-assessment must be documented, e.g. in the form of photos, videos or calculations made based on the indicated formulas.
