Chair of Graphic Design

Researchers in the Department of Graphic Design are creative and unafraid of challenges. Members of this unit primarily create art and are engaged in artistic and scientific activities. They participate in numerous prestigious reviews or competitions in graphic design and visual arts. They conduct research activities oscillating around creative-artistic fields such as contemporary art, graphic design, design or digital printing, etc.

The chair was created – among other things – as a result of the growing need for creative graphic designers and artists in the job market. Such a position requires a great deal of knowledge in graphic design and great creativity. Graduates of such majors will learn how to create design and art graphics. The best design artists are repeatedly awarded at numerous competitions in the country and around the world, and the huge number of such events proves that this is the profession of the future. During the course of study, the student will also learn how to create artistic graphics in the digital method. Currently, there is a trend that modern artists are abandoning traditional techniques such as linocut, woodcut and etching in favor of digital methods. Digital works often win significant competitions in the field of artistic printmaking. Graduates will gain knowledge of graphic design programs, as well as learn artistic creativity. Such a program will ensure that students and graduates will easily meet the needs of the most demanding employers.

Regeneration – No hunger
Project Manager: Patrycja Longawa, Ph.D, DSc., Assoc. Prof

In the first edition of the “Regeneration” project, the theme is zero hunger. According to new UNICEF data, 735 million people in the world suffer from hunger. The reasons for this situation include a long-standing pandemic, the climate crisis, and the war in Ukraine. As humanity, we should show compassion and solidarity with hunger-stricken regions. Regions such as West Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa face this problem on a daily basis. And the most vulnerable to death from hunger are children. A 2022 report clearly indicated that nearly 30% of the world’s population (2.4 billion people) lacked consistent access to food. The visual arts provide an opportunity to speak out about problems affecting not only individuals, but entire societies. Artists, thanks to their talent, can use their work to draw the attention of the viewer to various injustices or problems. Thanks to the visual communication contained in the image, the appeal can have an international scope, and thus the message will reach a wider audience.
The project includes two art forms; poster and illustration.
The international graphic design organization Worldwide Graphic Designers (WGD) will be a partner in the project.
The finalization of the project will be the creation of a publication combining elements of visual arts, as well as the collection of articles on the problem of hunger. The publication will be issued as a pdf file with an assigned ISBN number. The presenters, invited to the project, in addition to a self-commentary on their artwork will speak on the subject of hunger prevention.
