We have organized an event at UITM for our students, guests and staff to celebrate Africa’s strong cultural identity and heritage, which was held at our Kielnarowa campus.
Africa Day is observed annually to commemorate the founding of the organization of African Unity which was created on 25 May 1963. Over 200 people participated in this celebration. We were privileged to be in the presence of Prof. Agatha Jurkowska- Gomulka, who officially opened this historical event.
The celebration of this day, is an opportunity to remember Africa’s historical achievements, moreover, it gives Africa the chance to look forward to its development, security and peace while different countries celebrate this day with various activities such as cultural entertainment, poetry, arts, culture and traditional food, which is what was experienced in Kielnarowa on Monday.
We got the chance to understand more about the history of African Union as well as the unique culture, during some presentations. A runway showcasing traditional dressing from countries including Morocco, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Botswana was breathtaking as people got the chance to see the different colorful printed traditional wear and the meaning behind them. Dancing, and singing performances were also presented by our students who brought so much positive energy to the dance floor, encouraging everyone else to join in and learn some of the African dance moves.
The event was a great success and we hope to celebrate this special day annually.
The event is financed in frame of the project Let’s Integrate. Be a Part of UITM implemented as part of the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development – the project Enhancing the competences of academic staff and institutions in accepting students from abroad – Welcome to Poland (Measure: 3.3 Internationalisation of Polish higher education) co-financed by the European Social Fund.
