During classes in three new laboratories and the didactic garden, students will be able to better understand nature and environmental changes. „We are a university that undertook actions to save the environment four years ago,” emphasizes the University President, Dr. Hab. Eng. Tadeusz Pomianek, a professor at UITM.
Since May this year, classes have been held in four new labs on the UITM campus in Kielnarowa. These labs are:
– Biodiversity Laboratory: Allows for research on the diversity of plants and seeds.
– Soil and Water Laboratory: Facilitates research such as determining the organic matter content in soil and the total nitrogen content in water.
– Microbiology Laboratory: Designed for research on bacterial morphology and microbial cultures, among other topics.
– Didactic Garden: As part of practical classes, students can observe and educate themselves in the field of biodiversity.
Preparing for the Green Transformation of Business
“Three laboratories and a didactic garden are spaces where students acquire knowledge about the natural environment,” says Dr. Małgorzata Gosek, Vice-Rector of UITM for Innovation and Sustainable Development. She emphasizes that in this way, students develop the so-called green competencies currently sought after in the labor market. These skills are necessary for specialists responsible for the green transformation of businesses, meaning the shift of companies toward environmentally friendly practices and development. Students from all majors also have classes in these laboratories, as the aim is to build awareness of contemporary environmental issues and the challenges we face.
According to forecasts by the Lewiatan Confederation, by 2030, as many as 300,000 new jobs will be created in Poland for people with green competencies.
Knowledge of Nature for Everyone
In every major, students have the opportunity to participate in a lecture on civilization challenges. „We explain where the world is headed, why it has reached this point, and whether there are constructive solutions to ensure this generation is not the last of this civilization,” says Dr. Hab. Eng. Tadeusz Pomianek, President of the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów, and a professor at UITM.
Professor Pomianek, along with invited experts, discusses the challenges we face in connection with climate change and shares his knowledge on the Green Blog. On his initiative, the UITM Sustainable Development Strategy is being implemented, which includes several actions aimed at promoting sustainable development and spreading knowledge about it.
