A delegation from the University of Information Technology and Management took part in the EXPO 2020 World Exhibition in Dubai.
During Expo2020 UITM had a conference promoting Podkarpacie, talks with candidates for studies and a meeting with the Polish Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates.
In March 2022, the Podkarpackie Voivodeship presented its advantages during the largest economic event in the world – the EXPO in Dubai. The campaign promoting the Podkarpackie region was guided by the slogan: „Podkarpackie by nature creative”. Ignacy Łukasiewicz – patron of the year 2022 in Poland was chosen as the main ambassador, narrator and guide of the Podkarpacie exhibition in the Polish Pavilion at the EXPO in Dubai. Three thematic areas were presented at the stand prepared by Podkarpacie: nature, natural resources and sustainable development; culture, tradition and creativity as well as economy, science and technology.
The function of the Podkarpacie Ambassador in the field of SCIENCE was performed by Łukasz Bis, MSc, Representative of the Dean of the Department of Media and Social Communication at UITM for the development of Computer Graphics and Multimedia Design. His task was primarily to prepare four discussion panels for EXPO participants. As the person responsible for preparing the conference panels, I believe that this form of activity – although not the most popular, it was very valuable – admits Łukasz Bis, MA and adds: The gathered audience of each of the four days was active and willing to take part in the discussion. The conferences concerned various aspects of economic life in Podkarpacie – the creative industry, the aviation industry, Customization and Innovation as well as Science, Education and Business.
During the panel discussions, you could listen to representatives of very large, global companies (Inglot, ML System), software houses and companies from the digital area (CinematicVR, mobitouch), but also representatives from the world of science and education.
University of Information Technology and Management at EXPO in Dubai
Our university at the EXPO fair, apart from Łukasz Bis, was represented by a delegation consisting of, among others: Magdalena Louis (President’s Representative for International Cooperation) and Grzegorz Karpiuk (Director of the Project Office).
When it comes to the presence of UITM representatives in the Polish Pavilion as part of the Podkarpackie exhibition, Magdalena Louis says, „We managed to meet many candidates for studies in Poland at our university.” She adds, „They are mostly children of immigrants, the Dubai builders, from countries like Sri Lanka, India, and Pakistan.” Graduates of Dubai secondary schools who, despite their birthplace, do not get UAE citizenship. Educational agents from Dubai, with whom we have recently signed new agreements, as well as those with whom we began working last year, attended the presentation of the university’s offer. The majority of enquiries were concerning internships in foreign companies, and UITM has a number of contracts with major corporations that we could brag about. We also discussed career opportunities in Poland, as well as the costs of living in our nation and UITM’s educational offerings. What is more Aviation Management turned to be the most interesting for young ambitions people who get a chance to talk with UITM representatives.
On the occasion of the EXPO, Magdalena Louis also met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the UAE, Mr. Jakub Sławek. The meeting took place at the Polish Embassy in Abu Dhabi. The Ambassador emphasized that Poland now has a chance to invite as many young people as possible from all over the world to Poland and encourage them to study, because they will be our „ambassadors” in the world in the future.
The World EXPO in Dubai started in October 2021. The Podkarpackie Voivodeship presented itself in March as the last of the Polish regions. You can read more about the voivodeship’s participation at the Expo HERE.
