The University of Information Technology and Management announces the launch of the transformative project, „Common Languages: Bridge Between Cultures.” Rooted in the vision of breaking down linguistic and cultural barriers, this student-led initiative aims to foster integration among students from diverse backgrounds.
Crafted by students for students, „Common Languages: Bridge Between Cultures” underscores the significance of intercultural education. By promoting openness, mutual understanding, and respect, the project enriches the academic experience, fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity.
Dr. Paula Wieczorek, of the Department of English Philology, is the project coordinator. The „Bridge Between Cultures” project accomplished its objectives, which include improving students’ communication skills and developing cultural awareness. It is also critical to foster accent variety and student integration. This initiative demonstrates the importance of intercultural education at UITM and how it may enhance the academic experience by encouraging openness, mutual understanding, and respect among students from diverse backgrounds. The feedback I received confirms the project’s success and inspires me to continue working – says Dr. Paula Wieczorek.
The project commenced with engaging workshops and presentations led by Tariro Jong and Tendai Mashipe, students from Zimbabwe pursuing Nursing. These workshops, seamlessly integrated into regular English classes, provided a platform for sharing Zimbabwean culture, offering a unique learning experience on cultural diversity.
Students from diverse fields, including Computer Graphics and Multimedia Production, Cosmetology, Management, Logistics, and IT, actively participated in the initial classes. Polish-speaking students demonstrated commendable engagement, fostering a dynamic environment through inquiries and active participation in discussions.
Lecturers from the Department of English Philology, such as Kinga Bajorek, Joanna Urbanik, and Magdalena Gut, actively contributed to the project. Their participation underscores the project’s seamless integration into the academic curriculum, with participants expressing the added value of the workshops. Zimbabwean students relish the opportunity to share their culture while Polish-speaking students eagerly anticipate the project’s continued evolution – summarized the project coordinator.
Anticipate the next round of engaging meetings in the pre-Christmas period, as „Common Languages: Bridge Between Cultures” continues to build bridges and promote understanding at UITM.
