UITM’s Department of Cosmetology hosts 11 students from the National Medical University Asfendiyarova in Almaty, Kazakhstan. From October 16 to November 3, 2023, they’ll be engaged in a research internship focusing on „Cosmeceutical Pharmacology” within the field of Pharmaceutical Technology.
Under the guidance of Prof. Zuriyadda Sakipova from the National Medical University and Dr. hab. Katarzyna Gaweł-Bęben, a professor at UITM, these students are immersed in a practical course that includes the formulation of natural cosmetics, the extraction of active compounds from plant materials, and the evaluation of natural cosmetic ingredients’ effectiveness and safety through in vivo and in vitro methods.
During their internship, each student’s task is to prepare extracts from selected plant materials and assess their cosmetic potential in terms of bioactive compounds, antioxidant activity, and anti-discoloration potential. The most promising extracts will be used to create a series of natural cosmetics, with students evaluating their physicochemical properties and stability.
This collaboration is a significant step in the scientific and didactic partnership between UITM and the National Medical University in Almaty, forged through a memorandum signed in 2018, under the initiative of Prof. Ph.D. Kazimierz Głowniak, Head of the Department of Cosmetology at UITM. In the coming years, further implementation and expansion of the joint teaching offer of both partner universities is planned.
Furthermore, scientists from UITM’s Department of Cosmetology had the privilege of visiting Kazakhstan in May 2019 for a joint research project supported by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the „CosmeticValley – International Scientific and Implementation Cooperation at the Cosmetology Department” initiative.
