We received the Certificate of Educational Excellence from the Polish Accreditation Committee

By awarding the UITM with the Certificate of Educational Excellence for the IT major (both for first-cycle and second-cycle studies), the Polish Accreditation Committee took into account a number of criteria, including: the structure and implementation of the study program, strengthening students’ competences, preparing staff and cooperation with the environment. The achievements of students and graduates were also verified.
The certificate was awarded by the Resolution of the Presidium of the Polish Accreditation Committee. The initiative of submitting the application came from the Chairman of the Team of engineering and technical sciences. The application for granting the certificate was submitted after last year’s program evaluation in the field of Information Technology, as a result of which all the criteria specified in the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of September 12, 2018 on the program evaluation were met by UITM.
So far, Certificates of Educational Excellence have been awarded to 22 public universities, and in the field of IT, only 3 universities in Poland have received them – the University of Information Technology and Management, the University of Warsaw and the Lodz University of Technology.

The Certificate of Educational Excellence awarded by the Polish Accreditation Committee in the category Always for a student – excellence in supporting the development of students for the IT major is a great success and achievement for everyone involved in the didactic process in this field (including the Dean of the Department of Applied Computer Science, Dr. Mariusz Września and Vice-Deans, Dr. Janusz Kolbusz and Dr. Janusz Korniak). But it is also the success of the entire University. It is necessary to remember about the specificity of the control undertaken by PKA. In fact, the entire university, all its processes, quality systems, didactic supervision model, communication with students and additional student support systems are studied and analyzed. Especially the last thread is very important to us and has been the foundation of our organizational culture for years. From compensatory classes conducted during the first year, through an additional offer for volunteers (open lectures, workshops under the slogan „I want more”, cyclical meetings with representatives of the economic environment as part of the Business Lodge, School of Leaders – a special program supporting talented students), to “Empathetic” procedures and activities towards students, as well as extensive financial aid mechanisms, and finally professional dean’s office service. Our students have an impact on the functioning of the university, they are partners for us in making key decisions: the last example is the way our University operates in a pandemic, widely consulted with our Student Council and students. We are very pleased with this certificate, because in a way it is the crowning achievement of many years of efforts and confirmation that our mission is on the right track.

Information technology at UITM provides a very broad knowledge as well as specific and technical skills, confirmed by international certificates valued on the labor market. Importantly, at every stage of their studies, our students can count on the support of the staff – and this strongly translates into their approach to studies and the results achieved. I am very happy with the award, because it is a recognition of the commitment and competence of the lecturers of the Department of Applied Computer Science UITM, but I am equally proud of our students.

What distinguishes IT at UITM?

-The application of international educational requirements and patterns in the field of computer science, as defined, for example, by the world’s largest educational and scientific organization, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society and the British quality assurance agency for higher education.

-Ensuring compliance of the education concept with the certification programs of international IT companies desired by employers such as: Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, WMware, Adobe and the Linux Professional Institute, C ++ Institute, Python Institute.
-International Strategic Partners of the course: Cisco Networking Academy, 4 Prime, BorgWarner, TÜV NORD Polska – have a real impact on the concept of education, the education process as well as the internship program and career paths of students.

-The Cisco Academy Training Center operating at the University (the first Cisco Academy in Poland, the second largest in Europe) not only deals with the education and certification of regional Cisco Academy instructors, but is also authorized to conduct training courses preparing for the Cisco Certified Network Professional certificate ( CCNP).

-We support first-year students and help to make up for arrears in high school mathematics: in our innovative education program, we focus on reminding, completing and organizing the most important information necessary to start studies.
-Classes with students are conducted by international staff, including lecturers from the USA.
-Studies are conducted in both Polish and English, and our student community is made up of young people from over 50 countries around the world.

-We give our students the opportunity to obtain numerous language, IT and business certificates. Having such a document, recognized both in Poland and abroad, is proof of knowledge and skills and increases the attractiveness of a young employee on the labor market. UITM has already issued over 100,000 international certificates.

-Two systems of student support: equal opportunities („I want!”) And giving opportunities („I want more!”), Which enable individual approach to each student and motivate to achieve better results.

-Monitoring on an ongoing basis the compliance of grades with the predicted distribution, which allows for faster detection of extremely difficult assignments and care for the quality of education.

-Strengthening the entrepreneurial competences of students by comprehensively involving them in development and design works carried out at the University.

– Extensive use of modern didactic methods (e.g. case study, design thinking, problem questions, project) in the study program (both first and second cycle).

– Creation of virtualized server resources and sharing them with students in order to provide remote access to laboratories. Remote classes are carried out using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) tunneling from virtual machines and RDP tunneling from physical machines, which are carried out with a previously prepared set of software using proprietary solutions based on free Apache Guacamole software.

– The university promotes a culture of sharing knowledge: we provide materials in the field of remote education, at the 50+ Academy we conduct classes for older people, we implement projects for young people, we organize meetings and open lectures such as: Great „Questions in Science” or „High Five to Science”.

Program evaluation at UITM:

The visit to the UITM in the field of Computer Science took place on April 9-10, 2021. The visit was carried out remotely. During the visit, the members of the commission made, among other things, evaluation of study programs, quality of education, system of verification of learning outcomes, internationalization of the education process in the field of study, support in the process of educating students, didactic base and the method of implementation of internships. Members of the PKA Evaluation Team also visited the classes and met with students, academics and representatives of the socio-economic environment.
