Dr. hab. Tomasz Skica, professor at UITM, along with Wai Wai (Joyce) Ko from Brunel University London, chaired the session titled “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” at the World Economy, Finance and Business Symposium (WEFB 2024) in Singapore. During the symposium, Dr. Łukasz Cywiński from the Department of Entrepreneurship at the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów presented the results of their joint research on the potential for student entrepreneurship. The symposium took place on July 24 of this year.
The presentation entitled “Unleash the Spirit of Entrepreneurship: Students’ Views on University Support for Business Ventures” received positive feedback. This feedback will be especially valuable for future research plans aimed at exploring the topic of entrepreneurial potential among students.
Researchers from UITM conducted a study involving more than 1,500 students from the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów, representing one-third of the total student population. The sample maintained representativeness across all colleges and fields of study offered by the university. Professors Tomasz Skica and Łukasz Cywiński utilized a questionnaire developed by an interdisciplinary team consisting of economists, a sociologist, and a psychologist. A literature review conducted by the staff of the Department of Entrepreneurship at UITM confirmed that such comprehensive research, carried out on a large and diverse sample, is unique. This conclusion was also supported by conference participants, including scientists from Europe and Asia.
The uniqueness of the research results is further evidenced by the fact that UITM researchers employed both classical econometric analysis and data visualization techniques in R, as well as machine learning (ML) capabilities offered by the Python environment. Thanks to the innovative approach developed by the authors, the findings can contribute to the enhancement of educational programs tailored to the individual needs of students, enabling them to unlock their natural entrepreneurial potential.
